We have just spent a week with friends staying at a remote cottage on the Wildcoast….for us just heaven. Unspoiled beaches, great fishing and trail running and fantastic company. tHe cottage was built in the early 20’s and has been used as a family getaways for many generations. It is steeped in history and has an amazing character. Being very rustic and aptly named “The Shack” it is not everyone’s cup of tea….but you soon get used to the shower in a bucket after the water been warmed up on the fire and the solar generated power (that has family rations). The view is spectacular and at this time of year we caught sight of whales close to the shore. It was nearing the end of crayfish season however we managed to get in an awesome crayfish braai (barbeque). The road to the cottage from the tar is 40kms of dirt which after the spring rains was a VERY VERY scary drive in our bakkie – loads of fishtailing with our trailer and two punctures ,meant that we had to prolong our stay slightly in order for our tyres to get replaced in Lusikisiki – all conveniently arranged by Happy’s Shebeen – the local empire in the village. This was my fave image of the trip.
