2013 has been a challenging year for my family….Mum has maintained her clean bill of help and remains in remission after completing a course of chemotherapy in March 2013 which is such a blessing. She is pretty much back to her normal bubbly self and it has been difficult to keep up with her and my father as they have now been able to enjoy a bit of travel as she has regained her strength.

However, August 2013 brought with it new challenges as my husband Henry has been diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age of 37. He had surgery late August and is recovering well. We seem to have caught the cancer early and we are working very closely with his oncologist to monitor him although we are not out of the woods yet. We had been training to run the Wildrun 2013. This was a trail run staged over 3 days from Kei Mouth to Hole in the Wall at the Wild Coat totaling 112 kms which was set to start the 12th of September. Obviously Henry’s news came as a great shock and I initially decided to pull from the race. However it coincided with Henry having recovered sufficiently from his surgery. Henry encouraged me to still race and luckily I was able to find my cousin’s wife Lou Fitzsimons to fill in for him and run with me. I finished the race which was a momentous achievement for me and we ran for Henry.  I created an inspirational vimeo of stills and clips from our experience to tell our story – all taken with an iPhone and a Gopro see link here https://vimeo.com/75200184. I hope you enjoy if I can run this race ANYBODY can. For now Henry is in very capable hands and I am so grateful I have chosen a career which enables me to be flexible so I can be with my family when they need me most.
